How Do I...?

"How do I get help with removing large items?"

Bulky Item Collection Service

Call Tri-Cities Disposal & Recycling Service at 888-678-6798 to make an appointment to pick up your items. Residents of apartment complexes need to have the manager call to coordinate their pickup for the complex. We can collect up to five items per appointment. On your appointment day, place the items curbside for collection by our driver. This program is very popular. You should expect to wait as long as three weeks for an open appointment date. Please be patient with us!

"How do I report illegal dumping?"

Litter and illegal dumping of garbage, tires, mattresses, and hazardous waste items is a problem in our valley. The Salinas Valley is one of the most beautiful spots in California, yet a trip on area roadways can reveal alleyways, medians, roadsides, and parking lots strewn with litter. Litter is not only an eyesore, it poses health risks, impacts our waterways, decreases our quality of life, and is costly to clean up. To report a litter problem or illegal dumping, we recommend that you first contact the public works department for your city at the numbers listed above.  If the dumping occurs on county roadways (the County of Monterey oversees most rural areas), please call Monterey County Public Works at 831-755-4800 and report it.

Public works staff members are often working “out in the field” and may not be able to take your call right away. When you call, be prepared to leave a telephone message with the following:

  • Your Name

  • A telephone number where you can be reached

  • The location or closest address or cross street to the site of the litter or illegal dumping

  • The type of litter or material you have observed

  • Any other information you might find relevant

Please never attempt to touch or handle hazardous waste material.  If you come upon a questionable item or container during non-business hours, call the Monterey County Non-Emergency Dispatch at 831-769-8888If at any time there is a hazardous waste or materials spill that is life-threatening or presents an immediate safety hazard or danger of smoke, gas release, or fire, call 911.
